WHO'S WINE IS IT ANYWAY?
Members from the Institute of Chartered Accountants and the Cambridge Young Solicitors and Professionals Group joined RICS Matrics Cambridgeshire for a cross-professional tasting of wines from around the world. The event was sponsored by Bailey Fisher ~ Executive Search.
Matthew Boucher from Cambridge Wine Merchants briefed guests on the essentials of tasting before serving six wines from bottles with their labels masked from view. Our task was to guess as much as possible about the wine and where it was from. Extra marks were awarded for the best descriptions of the wines with champagne prizes for the most flamboyant and accurate.
In true blind-tasting style, removal of the bottle covers revealed the most popular wine by taste to be an unexpected choice, a German White: 2006 Peter Reinert Saar Reisling. It was also the cheapest at £7 per bottle! Finally, Matthew shared some useful tips on how to respond convincingly, when a client or friend invites you to a meal and asks “What do you think of the wine...?”
