Fundraising advice for technology companies at Bailey Fisher’s

Women 4 Technology networking event

Speaking at Bailey Fisher’s Women 4 Technology networking lunch on 1 July, Dr Catherine Beech OBE, talked about the problems of fundraising in an economic downturn, disabusing the myth that it is impossible to raise funds in the current economic climate.

Catherine, a specialist investor in early-stage life sciences companies, and the founder of the Cambridge Gateway Fund, gave a concise and enlightening speech, pinpointing sources of early-stage and series A funding for technology companies, as well as stressing the importance for early-stage companies in valuing their IP, in preparation for exit.

The second in Bailey Fisher’s series of Women 4 Technology lunches, the event was attended by over 40 senior female decision makers in the technology sector, including the Chief Executive of a corporate incubator and the Chairman of a London venture capital fund.

Ann Fisher, Director and Co-founder of Bailey Fisher, and the driving force behind Women 4 Technology says: “The response to the event has been incredibly positive, with attendance growing from 25 at our first event in April, to over 40 this time.  Many of our guests are drawn from technology companies in and around the Cambridge cluster, where Bailey Fisher is based, but our remit is far wider, working closely with clients across the Eastern region, London, the Midlands and North West.  The informal atmosphere at Women 4 Technology offers great networking potential, and this is proving very attractive to guests both from within the cluster and further afield.  We are pleased to be on the radar already for a number of CXOs and VPs from the US, keen to attend Women 4 Technology when an event coincides with a trip to the UK.”
