Sharon Vosmek is CEO of Astia, a global community committed to building women leaders and accelerating the funding and growth of women-led high-growth companies

Interviewed in Cambridge Business Magazine this month, Sharon Vosmek says: "There are 2 factors limiting women in business - access to networks and opportunities. We find companies, which have to be women-led, but can include men, that should be high-growth but are undervalued."

"We encourage the current generation of women entrepreneurs to think bigger and make the most of tech transfer. We are interested in wealth creation and we want to see more women grow into positions of influence and wealth."

"Women continue to underestimate themselves in business. Women's self-assessment is different. A woman who has been doing a job for 15 years will say 'I don't know whether I'm qualified...' whereas a man who has been doing the same job for 5 years will say 'I'm qualified.'    Our mission is to break down barriers between the genders."

The board of Astia is 50% women and 50% men, which is a deliberate move on Sharon's part. "You get very dynamic energy."

What about the glass ceiling? "If you set up access to relationships the ceiling disappears. It is elegant in its simplicity."

Sharon Vosmek was interviewed by Jenny Chapman, Business Editor at Cambridge News.  The article appears in Issue 11 (May/June 2011) of Cambridge Business Magazine.  To read the full article, see Cambridge News
